Car Boot Haul, June 2015

Without writing up a long boring list on a lazy Sunday afternoon, this picture shows the first car boot score of 2015! Some items are familiar and some may not be. The only 'non-toy' of this lot is the infamous Hip-Swinging Santa! This find was bought as an active replacement for one I sat on last Christmas. Alongside prequel-era Star Wars items, Toy Story merchandise has a tendency to be quite common from the car trunk displays.

The prize piece of the lot! A 1989 New Adventures of He-Man sword bought with pocket shrapnel. The sound-chip is distorted, but it is still a pretty cool item nonetheless. Perhaps it can be mended in time.

Here are a few other gems found last Sunday, including: A die-cast Blue Ranger, Meal toy Jane, some Scooby Doo monsters, a Bruce Timm Superman and some Power Rangers: Samurai clobber.

The hunt for treasure continues next week. (weather permitting...)

A Year in the making.

Finally! A years wait to obtain all the Masters of the Universe minis from 2014.

Each set was released every 2-months on MattyCollector, containing 2 figures and a piece of a Castle Greyskull display.

Worth the wait.

Battle Cat and Cringer

How cool is Battle Cat? The green and yellow tiger companion of He-Man.
Or on the flipside - Cringer the cowardly green and yellow pet of Prince Adam.

By chance I caught up with the original Filmation He Man episode 'Battlecat' to have a sneaky peak at Battle Cat/Cringer's origin story. A great tale of friendship, an ingredient I feel that a lot of todays shows and cartoons greatly lack.

I owned the original Mattel toy back in 1984 and even though it was a limited representation of the big-bad kitty it was still a cool toy to display all the same. It completed owning a He-Man figure.

Battle Cat was awesome to watch on screen whether he was baddie bashing as the big cat or scared of his own shadow as the kitten. I must admit that I liked the non-talking 2002 take on the character a bit better.

I've always wondered how much of a disguise Battle Cat is to Cringer. Surely green and yellow tigers on Eternia are not that common. Even with the cool saddle and mask, Battle Cat still looks like a roided up version of his other identity. They certainly are two different personalities in a Jekyll and Hyde kind of way. Hopefully if a newer He-Man series arises there will be more exploration regarding He-Man's colour-clashing steed.

Cringer the Battle Cat

Whilst at work today, I discovered amongst the kindergarten toy clutter an old 1984 Cringer toy (well Battle Cat minus his red armour anyway!).

The children were unimpressed that this toy had no articulation and were confused to why a large tiger animal would be green! They found my tales of He-Man more interesting though.

I had a Battle Cat back in the days when He-Man was the Ben 10 of my generation. It completed having a He-Man toy by having his feline steed to ride.

Skeletor VS Mo-Larr

After paying a ransom fee to the CUTA people for holding my parcel hostage I came home on Saturday morning with this long awaited arrival.

My SDCC Exclusive Mo-Larr VS Skeletor is finally here in all its 'I must keep sealed in packaging' glory!

For those not in the know, this 2 pack is based on the Robot Chicken season 2 comedy skit about an Eternian dentist with no allegiance for good nor evil but a life long mission to defeat cavities.



I've not cared much for the Masters of the Universe Classics stuff, but this was definitley a must have. Best kept sealed however.

SMASH BLADE HE-MAN aka PLAYER 2

For the last 3-4 months I’ve been seeing this stray figure, battered packaging and all on the toy section shelves in Poundstretcher. I’ve passed up buying this toy every time I visit. It is none-other than the less popular Smash Blade He-Man variant from the short-lived 2002 revival toyline.

So like a stray off the streets I picked this figure up and took it in. Despite the £5 sticker on the card I paid £2.99 instead. Bargain!

I already own the original 2002 He-Man (although I am not sure where I have him currently stored) and this Smash Blade toy is pretty much a repaint with a spinning shuriken/cat & ninetails replacing the Battle Axe. I actually think it’s pretty cool, in fact I prefer to call this figure Player 2 He-Man because of the blue colouring.

I am aware Smash Blade/Player 2 He-Man wasn’t popular amongst the active MOTU fanbase but somebody had to rescue this drifting homeless figure. Best part of 3 quid well spent!
