Rescuers Down Under Christmas Ornaments, McDonalds 1990

Happy Christmas in July! It's the first blog post in a while... Well, one of which from the drafts waiting to be published.

30+ years ago, The Rescuers movie got a sequel where Bernard and Bianca took thier heroics to Australia - and McDonalds joined in for a festive Happy Meal promotion.

I tracked this promotion down online and acquired an unopened set. These are pretty cool! They're a simple set of the movies main 2 characters as flocked figures in Christmas attire. Bernard and Bianca are in near scale to Sylvanian Families / Calico Critters toys but without the articulation.

These will be joining The Demogorgon, Soundwave, Ecto-1 and a whole host of other pop culture mess on our 'Holiday' tree when its up in November.

CHRISTMAS ENCORE - The Christmas Day Toy Battles 2010-2015

In our household, a festive tradition involving the latest toy acquisitions from Big Red would take place with a photo commemorate the occasion. Some backtracking has been done and photos dating back to as early as 2010 have been found. The Christmas Day toy battle has made for some amusing skit crossovers and fun playtime memories. Here's the rundown...

Hallmark Megatron Christmas Keepsake 2015

Its the middle of July, and never too early to start thinking about the next 20 weekends ahead.

Hallmark's Megatron Keepsake Ornament has been released and is a follow up to last years Optimus Prime. And, like before this tree dangler is a tribute to the original 80's toy representation of the character. Hopefully, this is a regular annual thing!

Hallmark has put together an uncanny scaled down static duplicate of the popular original toy. It has no articulation, and of course – it does not transform! This also skips the past complications of Megatron's questionably controversial alt-mode.

My criticism of the old toy has always been the fragile robot mode. This sadly translates a lot worse as a light plastic Christmas ornament, and is a delicate model as a result. Hallmark have probably foreseen this and have packed this ornament without a plastic tray and a lot more tissuepaper than Optimus Prime had last year.

Unfortunately, no hanging string is included. There is a thin eyelet for 'sold separately' string located on the right shoulder.

In a nutshell, this is no way a toy though based on one. A brilliant looking collectable all the same.

Rainbows Toys Christmas Catalogue 1992

Before The Entertainer in Keynsham, the space was occupied by Rainbows Toys. Even the loading bay out back still bares a Rainbows Toys logo. Rainbows was popular, but its still good to have a local highstreet toyshop all the same.

Recently found is this product catalog for the Christmas 92 season. The Totally Toys logo also appears twice on the bottom so you don't forget it easily. Totally Toys are a separate highstreet retailer or possibly a sister business. They still have stores around the map, most notably a Bristol store I've been visiting long before Toys R Us started up business on British shores. More on them another time...

EPIPHANY 2015

Happy 3 Kings Day, one and all!

My daughter has been asking me to finally open this Biblequest set of The Magi. Could not think of a better occasion to do so.
